The Family Room conversation series pays homage to the rich legacy of Metropolitan A.M.E. Church as a space that has convened important discussions for more than 160 years. From Frederick Douglass’ speech The Race Problem and Ida B. Wells’ speech on anti-lynching to Stacey Abrams’ talk about voter suppression, this space remains sacred and necessary.
Ticket purchases and direct donations made to support The Family Room help to preserve this important institution, which recently celebrated its 181st anniversary.
Beginning with the Bethel Literary Society, Metropolitan AME Church has hosted important voices at the forefront of civic, cultural, and intellectual life among African Americans since the 1850’s.
By purchasing a $40 ticket, more than 600 people quickly joined in for the inaugural Family Room conversation with Stacey Abrams and legendary Civil Rights journalist Dorothy Gilliam on September 12.
